Channel 4 News spoke to the chair of the independent inquiry into child sexual abuse about the systemic failings that contributed to Sara Sharif’s death. Professor Alexis Jay has expressed frustration at the number of reports and findings that have been left to gather dust on the shelf.
Her own inquiry lasted seven years, hearing from more than 7000 survivors of Child Sexual Abuse, and costing £186million. Twenty recommendations were published in 2022, but at most two have been implemented.
She invited all the main political party leaders to a Westminster event to highlight the need for action. None attended, though the Prime Minister sent a message. She was asked whether she felt that Ministers understood the urgency of the changes she recommends.
