How criminals use private messaging platforms to groom children

NSPCC Learning reports that data shows how private messaging platforms are being used by criminals to manipulate and groom children.  44 UK Police Forces recorded 7,263 'Sexual Communication with a Child' offences in the last year, almost double since the offence came into force in 2017/18.  Where the platform could be identified, 40% of offences took place on Snapchat, 9% on WhatsApp and 9% on Facebook and Instagram.  The report also looks at how existing tools and interventions could be applied to private communication, as well as emerging technologies that could address harm in end-to-end encrypted (E2EE) environments.
